What was your childhood like?
I was raised by both parents. My mom was a counselor and my father a
police officer.
Who introduced you to drugs?
My best friend introduced me to marijuana when I was around 14 years old.
What happened after you began using
drugs?
Within ten years, I had acquired 3 Drunk Driving Violations (DUI’s)
How did you hear about the Mission?
I was serving a 600 day sentence in the County Jail when I met a
Mission
counselor who was teaching a class on substance abuse at the jail.
What do you like about being in the three year addiction program?
I like the resources and emphasis on education, as well as, the
caring staff that have shown me that my life has value. I feel like
the Mission has given me the opportunity to have a “do over” in
life.
What would you be doing if you were
not in the addiction program?
I would probably be dead, in prison, at the hospital or drunk
somewhere.
What have you been able to
accomplish during your three year stay here?
I graduated Delta College with four degrees: Liberal Arts &
Sciences, Natural Science, Interdisciplinary Math & Science, and
Elementary School Teacher Preparation! I was
accepted into University of the Pacific’s Bio-engineering/Pre-med
program! I am so grateful for the Mission’s services that have
